This is an image of Shameka Andrews, a 45 year old Disabled Person with Spina Bífida who is from Albany, New York. She is sitting in her wheelchair.

She is a Disability Advocate and Consultant. She is the founder of Disability Empowered Consulting, she is the State Coordinator of the Miss Wheelchair New York program and she works part time for the Self Advocacy Association of New York State as the Outreach Coordinator.

Her hobbies are dancing, listening to music, reading, and watching movies.

She is Ms. Wheelchair New York, 2006. She wrote her first children's book in 2017. She has been recognized for her advocacy work by many organizations, including the Office for People with Developmental Disabilities in New York State, the Spina Bífida Association of New York State, Women at Work Magazine, and the United Spinal Association.

Through her organization, Disability Empowered Consulting, she offers workshops in the areas of self advocacy, self care, and Disability awareness.

Shameka wants to write more books and travel more.

She went to school in the Schenectady school district, which was about an hour away from her home. Back in school, she was excluded from many activities because of lack of accessibility.

She believes ableism is a huge problem that people with Disabilities face every day. When asked the question, what do you want to share with people? Shameka's response was "it's important to find our own voice among all the other voices that surround us to know what works for us and what doesn't no matter what our ability."
