Here’s Part of my Story

Hello everyone,

I am Jensen Caraballo, and I want to share my story with you. Life has thrown its fair share of challenges my way, but I have learned to embrace them and use them as stepping stones to make a positive impact in the world.

I was born on June 7, 1990, in Guayama, Puerto Rico, a place that holds a special place in my heart. Growing up, I was surrounded by a rich culture and a strong sense of community. Little did I know that these early experiences would shape my passion for promoting inclusivity and equality later in life.

Living as a disabled person of color has its unique set of obstacles. I am a full-time wheelchair user, and I battle depression and anxiety every day. My disabilities have become the driving force behind my advocacy work and my determination to create a more inclusive society.

In my free time, I engage in various hobbies that bring me joy and help me grow as an individual. Reading has always been a source of solace for me. It allows me to escape into different worlds and gain new perspectives. Writing is another passion of mine. Through my words, I strive to challenge societal norms and shed light on the experiences of disabled individuals.

Music and television are my companions, offering me moments of relaxation and inspiration. They expose me to different genres, cultures, and stories, broadening my understanding of the world around me.

Living independently is important to me, and I currently have my own apartment. I rely on the support of four dedicated aides who provide me with around-the-clock care through CDPA services. Their unwavering presence ensures my well-being and allows me to pursue my goals.

Advocacy is a fundamental part of who I am. I am proud to be part of an advocacy group that focuses on the IDD community in healthcare. Together, we work tirelessly to raise awareness, advocate for better healthcare access, and promote the rights of individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

Additionally, I serve on the Board of Directors for two organizations that hold a special place in my heart. The SPM Disability Justice Fund provides fiscal sponsorship to projects that address disability justice, empowering individuals and communities to make a lasting impact. Consumer Directed Action of New York is another organization that I am actively involved in, advocating for consumer-directed services and empowering individuals to have control over their own lives.

Writing has been a powerful tool for me to amplify the voices of the disabled community. I have had the privilege of writing blog posts for organizations such as the Center for Disability Rights, Not Dead Yet, and the National Disability Institute. Through my words, I strive to challenge misconceptions, break down barriers, and promote understanding and inclusion.

Now, I am actively seeking opportunities for remote work. With my diverse skill set, ability to learn quickly, and unwavering commitment to personal and professional growth, I am ready to contribute my talents to a meaningful cause. If you have any opportunities that align with my skills and interests, please feel free to reach out to me at

Life has taught me that challenges are meant to be overcome. My journey, though difficult at times, has shaped me into the resilient, driven individual I am today. I am determined to make a positive impact, foster disability justice, and empower others within the IDD community.

Thank you for taking the time to read my story. Let us strive for a world where every individual, regardless of their disability, is embraced and given the opportunity to thrive.

With gratitude,

Jensen Caraballo
