Meet Flip Polizzi Rivera

Updated: Mar 26, 2023

This is one of my best friends, Flip Polizzi Rivera. I met him when I lived at Monroe Community Hospital. Flip is sitting in his wheelchair, his legs are crossed, he is wearing boots with blue jeans. He is wearing a shirt that reads "don't mind me".

Flip is a unique individual. He is smart, funny, and friendly. We met at MCH. I was 16 years old when I met Flip. We became best friends instantly after connecting about music.

Flip has a Disability called Spastic Cerebral Palsy. He communicates using a Dynavox, which is an Assistive Technology device. He is unable to speak.

Flip currently lives in his own home in Greece, New York, where he is an advocate in the community for Disabled People. Before owning his own home, he lived at Monroe Community Hospital, he says he lived there for 15 years too long. He lived in Penfield with his mother before MCH.

Flip says it took him 15 years to transition back into the community.

He says he loves living in the community, "I love living in my own house and my neighborhood is awesome.  I have awesome neighbors and especially one.  He treats like I’m his little brother.  I met his family and friends and I love them too.  Although, the winter sucks because the snow.  They don’t plow like Henrietta does."

Flip says he wants to fix people's computers in the community. He also has some goals like getting his donated van on the road this year and writing a book.
